I can't even put my feelings into words about the end of this series. As many of you know, I did not overly enjoy The Elite, but The One made up for it! So many questions are answered, and most importantly, you learn who America choses. Barnes & Noble and UPS didn't get the book to me until Friday, three days after the release when I had preorder guarantee, which left me spitting mad. I was preparing to make them go die in a hole filled with vipers, that was how angry I was. But then it got here and everything was all better!
America really grows in this book, both into herself and her world. America learns more about herself and just how to conduct the world to be her orchestra. Life changed drastically for America after she was chosen for the Selection, and it hasn't slowed down, but she manages to take it all in stride and still do the right thing, even when everyone else is too scared. America is a bit of whiner, which is a bit annoying, but nothing I can't handle compared to some other books I've read. I really loved getting to know Maxon more and seeing other sides of him that I hadn't before. He acts a little out of character at one point, which left me confused, but that's it.
Overall, the book was a success! I have been both disappointed and happy with book endings within the last year, and this definitely falls into the latter. While I think the ending could have been a bit tighter, it was decent. My one big complaint is the lack of world-building. We see more in this book than in any of the others, but I really want to know more. There were a couple things left unexplained, which I believe could be fixed in a short novella. All in all, The One was a good book and definitely a success in the finale department!
