Characterize It (5)
Welcome to Characterize It, a meme held every Thursday and hosted by The YA Book Butterfly. It's a weekly meme, each week featuring a different characteristic. Basically, each week, she'll pick a new characteristic and participating bloggers as well as herself will choose a character that fits that description. For more information, look here.
This weeks's theme is regular old gal-the most realistic of the YA characters.
Eleanor from Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell takes the cake! I was considering a few others from contemporary books, but often, they are still thrown into extraordinary circumstances. Eleanor is your average girl living in 1986. She is fun and spunky, but at times, also weak. Eleanor reacts to many things as any other girl might, and she has to deal with many of the same demons. So yes, Eleanor all the way.
Who do you think is a regular old gal in YA?
